Meet my new gal...

I need a name for 'er. Suggestions?

I was thinkin maybe "Lola," reminiscent of the sexually ambiguous character, noted for his/her surprising strength, a la The Kinks...

...or maybe "Rocinante." That was the name of Steinbeck's truck-camper, featured in the peerless work of travel writing Travels with Charley. It was also the name of Don Quixote's horse, which is where Steinbeck got the name. Incidentally, rocin in Spanish means "work horse"...

Ideas for names for my gal? Leave 'em in the comments section...

The relationship between a man and his truck is personal so, IMHO, any suggestions from others will just not be sufficient (although Kwai, is very funny). It must come from your heart. But in actuality the reason I stopped by is twofold, to introduce myself and to ask a question. So first things first...

Hi, my name is Bryon, I'm from Denver, CO and currently living in a semi-rural area of the Philippines, just outside of San Jose City. I discovered your company's site, Aqueous Solutions, while looking for a natural easy way filter/purify water for a property that my wife's family owns. (BTW, the DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Water Purification: Basic System Design document is just fantastic. It is, without a doubt, the best system to be found on the Internet.) This led me to your Pun Pun site, which led me to your blog, or maybe the other way around. In any event they are all just great and I think your work and your charity praiseworthy to say the least.

Secondly, I wondered if I might ask a question about the Banana EM on the Pun Pun site; please excuse me and disregard if this is an inappropriate place to ask. As you can imagine, digestive problems are quite common here and the banana EM looks like it could be of great help. I think that it also goes without saying that, having grown up in a consumer-oriented-Ziploc-Baggy-America, leaving anything out for a month-- like the banana em--goes against the grain of my thinking in that I would think this would cause digestive problems rather than being of benefit. Yet, the instructions state otherwise. So I guess this is more of a clarification than outright question, but am I reading this correctly that the 3kg of bananas and 1kg of honey is to be left out in a container with a lid for "at least one month?"

If you've made it this far, thanks for your time and I really enjoy reading about your work and research. Keep up the good work!

Sincerely,
Bryon Bean

I don't know why, but that car reminded me of a french story i read in highschool called: Boule de Suif. Boule de Suif is the nickname of a fat prostitute and her real name is Elisabeth. So that is my name for your car. :)

Hi Bryon - thanks for leaving such detailed and thoughtful comments...

Regarding the EM question, the theory is that if a person has a healthy and diverse microbial ecosystem in their gut, they will have more resilience and resistance to disease. Only a relative few microorganisms are "bad players" in the human GI tract - if there is an abundance and diversity of good guys (or at least neutral guys) there, they will out-compete the bad guys and the system maintains a dynamic balance and confers resistance to the diseases that come from having too many of one kind of microbe or a threshold-plus population of harmful microbes.

So that's the theory...and does drinking banana EM help with that? I think so, but I haven't read any proper scientific studies documenting the matter. It's more of a folk-remedy, which doesn't mean it doesn't work. There may be some studies out there backing it up - you should try to find them, read them, and let me know what you find out!

Chances are the theory is solid, in my opinion...in any case remember that "you" are only about 10% of what you think you are - in other words, there are 10 times more microbial cells in your organism than there are you-cells. So "you" aren't you so much as host environment (10%) for a microbial ecosystem (90%). So better do all you can to keep those little guys happy!

Hi Josh
Doesn't matter what you name a beast like that. She's hot! That's enough to get any cop to let you off with a warning.

On our roadtrip in Spain, "El coche blanca' was the preferred title of our tiny hatchback.

Therefore, a Thai/Karen translation of 'the white car' seems appropriate!
